My Bloody Valentine

Valentine’s Day 2021 isn’t quite what any of us had dreamed of. With a lot of the world still in lockdown, in the depths of winter, in the shadow of the worst strain of Covid so far it’s understandable that we may be missing the warm fuzzy feelings that V Day can usually inspire; the tantalising touch of cupid’s arrow, the heart tingling anticipation of stepping out into the love drunk night; adrenalin laced cocktails, clinches with handsome strangers, dance floor adventures, the promise of high-octane love affairs.

I felt myself plummeting into a petulant sulk a few days ago. For those of us who are single life in lockdown has felt like the walls closing in on the hopes, dreams and visions of true love that we normally take for granted.

Yes it’s all about falling in love with yourself first and yes this new pandemic world has given us plenty of opportunities to strengthen our self love, yes lockdown has given us plenty of time to ponder what we really want from a relationship but enough already, it’s time for something different! For those in a relationship the last year could have been kill or cure and just as challenging as it has been for singletons.

Whatever your view of the pandemic, whether you see it as the great reckoner, the great re-set, the great conspiracy, (to f*ck everyone up and turn us into compliant zombies) mother nature unleashing her wrath on human beings, bio chemical warfare or just ‘one of those things’ I think there’s one unshakeable truth that underpins it all – love is the shining star on the horizon that has guided us through, love is the anchor that has kept us grounded and love is the hope in our hearts that glimmers sweetly through the dark winter nights, alighting the spark of new life to come, new lips to kiss, new loves to embrace.

With love & hope xxxxx
